Moving Away from a Scattered Mind: a Meditation

In this short meditation practice you can learn to pull back energy - in towards yourself - that was being funnelled away through external points of distraction. Move away from a scattered mind; strengthen your own Energy Field, and create a more focussed mindset.

Waking up thinking about other people, a situation from the previous day, I was trying to have a quiet moment. But my mind kept going back to an unresolved situation, why was my mind so intent on devoting precious morning ‘peace-time’ to someone I had never met?

My mind kept going over how this person in a particular situation had corresponded, and in my mind I was writing and rewriting the script, and then I realised that my decision to have a peaceful coffee in the morning was being disturbed even further … my mind was becoming drawn to all of the events and interactions of the previous day.

As the mind continued its’ fixation on all of those past interactions, I noticed that all the people I had met, or even sat next to on the train, had become a point of focus. As if we had connected in some way, and now that connection was pulling my energy away from my self.

Once I noticed what was happening, I sat and imagined pulling my energy back in towards me from all of those people, all of those interactions.

I sat, closed my eyes, and as I breathed in I imagined pulling my energy back in towards me.

Each time I breathed in, I was breathing my energy back in towards my core.

And as I breathed out, I imagined using that energy to create a kind of bubble around me that would prevent me from ‘losing’ energy to those people or thoughts again.

Breathing in:- inhale energy back in towards yourself. You may imagine a particular person or scenario that has been distracting you, and physically breathe in the energy that was held there, imagine there is a strand of energy that connects you, and breathe that in, continue until it feels like the external focus weakens.

Breathing out:- imagine breathing out energy to create a bubble around yourself, containing your energy and strengthening your energy field.

After just a few minutes I realised my mind was no longer being drawn to those people or situations like a magnet pulling my energy out towards them. My mind was no longer ‘scattered’, but it became focussed on a single point, bringing the energy back to my self.

In that moment the image of a Plasma Globe came to mind. We used to play the one at the London Science Museum as kids; what we understood as ‘electricity’ flowed towards our hands when we touched the glass globe, or even when we just came close enough.

This is exactly how we can understand other people, other situations ‘taking’ our energy, our mind, our thoughts away from ourselves. Away from a ‘chosen’ thought or simple moment of peace, and towards something or someone that could be thought of as reducing the energy - or focus - that we could otherwise use for ourselves, our own productivity and achieving our more deliberate goals.

The plasma lamp was invented by Nikola Tesla during his experimentation with high-frequency currents for the purpose of studying high voltage phenomena.
